Modern Foreign Language
MFL Spanish Vision Statement
“To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world'. Chinese Proverb.
The golden thread throughout our whole curriculum is the intent to improve health, raise aspirations and promote diversity.
At Woods Bank Academy, we strive to enable children to go above and beyond their everyday experiences and have chosen Spanish as our MfL focus.
Our children belong in a community where languages are diverse and through their MfL curriculum, they will celebrate these languages. Our children will learn the Spanish language by having a positive attitude and by setting themselves challenging goals that enable them to go above and beyond their own high expectations. Our children will grow in confidence when speaking Spanish particularly through development of pronunciation. Through KS2, children will develop independence in writing simple words and phrases. As individuals, children will develop skills that they can apply in real-life context.
The substance of our curriculum has drawn on these concepts to treat the subjects that we teach as distinct disciplines, setting out their own vocabulary, skills, knowledge and perspectives, and yet linked, drawn together by an impulse to enable all of our pupils to be healthier, celebrate diversity and have the highest aspirations for themselves and society.
Through their language lessons, acquisition of a foreign language and learning about the culture of another country our children will understand the diverse world around them. Our children are already part of a community where languages are diverse and through their MfL curriculum, they will celebrate these languages. They will learn a new language by having a positive attitude and by setting themselves challenging goals and aspirations that enable them to go above and beyond their own high expectations.
