Hello, and welcome to Cherry Class!
We have some amazing things planned this year. Reception will be starting their Forest School journey, where we will be learning more about the outdoors and observing the natural effects that occur during the winter. We will also be looking for signs of spring whilst planting our own seeds and developing our EYFS garden.
In Literacy, we will look at wonderful stories, such as Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne, and Oliver's Vegetables by Vivian French. These books will link into our work around planting and healthy eating.
In Phonics, we will continue learning new sounds as we progress through Little Wandle, our phonics scheme. We have lots of games and we will be learning how to segment words so we can blend them together and read them, which is super exciting! We will continue through the year learning tricky words and writing sentences.
In Maths, we are exploring numbers to five at first and then to ten, getting to know them inside out and having lots of fun breaking them apart to see all the ways we can make them up. We will explore numbers in practical ways and we’ll even include lots of singing, which is my favourite thing to do!
Alongside these lessons, we are exploring lots of other subjects included in the EYFS Curriculum, including Physical Development; Understanding the World; Communication and Language; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; plus Expressive Arts and Design. We cover these in a variety of different and engaging ways. We always have lots of fun in Cherry Class!
General reminders
Our PE lessons are on Monday afternoons.
Visits to the library are on Tuesdays. The children need to bring their library books in then so that they can choose a new book.
It is really important to bring the Little Wandle reading books to school every day. They are normally changed on a Monday.
It is very important that your child's belongings are clearly labelled. Items such as jumpers, cardigans, coats, hats, scarves and gloves are regularly taken off by the children and having them labelled helps them to be returned to the correct child. Also, please make sure that they have a named water bottle in school every day.
Please bring in a pair of Wellington boots for Forest School.
If you have any questions or issues, you can find us at the Reception door at the end of the day. Alternatively, you can contact Mrs Hegarty on Class Dojo.
